The city of Los Angeles taxes all businesses whether a corporation, independent contractor, home business or partnership. If you are conducting business in the city of Los Angeles you are legally required to pay the tax.

To legally operate a Home Business in the city of Los Angeles you are required to Register and apply with the City Clerks office for a Home Occupation Business Tax and Registration. In addition to the Business tax outlined, there is a $25.00 charge per year for using your home to make money.

  Which Los Angeles Communities Are Subject To the Tax?

The following communities are located within the corporate limits of the City of Los Angeles. If your city is not listed (such as Glendale) it is outside the limits and not subject to the LA tax.   What Are the Penalties if I Don’t Pay the Tax?

According to the Los Angeles Municipal Code it is a misdemeanor to not pay any tax due and can be punishable by a fine of not more than $1,000 and/or not more than six months in jail. However, they have to prove that you purposefully and/or intentionally evaded payment.
